Saint-Michel-Chef-Chef, next to La Govelle beach, preserves the remains of an old château that gives this campsite its name, on a stretch of the Côte de Jade where low cliffs alternate with sandy coves towards Pornic. Camping du Vieux Château, a simple campsite, offers a bar, bungalows, takeaway food, fishing, indoor and outdoor pools, hiking and a supermarket, and pets are allowed, with the beach a short distance away among rocks and sand. It is a comfortable base for walking the coastal path towards Pornic and its castle, or for discovering the quieter coves of this stretch of coastline, at once Vendée and Breton. It is best to check the season's opening dates with the campsite itself before travelling.
