Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte keeps in the centre of the Norman Cotentin a medieval castle that was the German headquarters during the Second World War and today presides over a quiet village, far from the bustle of the D-Day landing beaches. Camping Municipal Le Vieux Château, next to that fortress, is a simple, inexpensive stop for those continuing to explore Normandy. The rural setting of the Manche invites walks along the River Douve and visits to neighbouring villages, with the coast a short drive away.
