Portbail looks out over a wide estuary that empties almost completely at low tide, exposing sandbanks where hundreds of birds feed, a phenomenon typical of this west coast of the Cotentin that is little known outside Normandy. Camping Côte des Isles keeps its offering simple, centred on the surrounding landscape of marshes and dunes. The village has an old baptistery of Roman origin, one of the oldest in France, next to its medieval church. It is a quiet area, far from the mass tourism of the landing beaches, appreciated by those looking for nature and silence on the Normandy coast. From here it is also easy to reach Barneville-Carteret, a little further north.
