Description of the campsite
Plougonvelin closes off the westernmost point of France next to the Pointe Saint-Mathieu, where the ruins of an old abbey sit alongside a working lighthouse on cliffs battered by the Iroise Sea, opposite the roadstead of Brest. Camping Les Terrasses de Bertheaume, a simple campsite, has bungalows, a swimming pool and a sauna, with the beach a short distance away between cliffs and rocky coves. It is a distinctive base for walking the coastal path to the Bertheaume fort or for watching the marine wildlife of the Iroise Sea, one of the wildest stretches of the Breton coast. It is best to check the season's opening dates with the campsite itself before travelling.
