Crest can be recognised from a distance by its tower, the tallest of any medieval fortification in France, which overlooks the Drôme river valley from a rocky ridge that gives the town its name. Camping Les Clorinthes sits right beside the river, with a pool for swimming and an entertainment programme in high season aimed mainly at families. The village, with its steep streets and houses with narrow façades, invites you to climb up to the tower for views over the Drôme valley and the first Pre-Alpine foothills. It is a good starting point for exploring both the Drôme valley and the Provençal Drôme, a little further south.
