Saint-Jean-de-Maruéjols-et-Avéjan is tucked away among the olive groves and vineyards of the Gard Cévennes, near Bessèges, a transition area between the Mediterranean Gard and the first foothills of the Cévennes. Camping L'Oliveraie takes its name from the centuries-old olive trees that surround the site, and offers a pool for the Languedoc summer as well as a bar to talk over the day at dusk. The bungalows are a comfortable alternative for those who prefer not to carry camping equipment in this quiet corner of the Gard, little visited by mass tourism despite its closeness to the Ardèche gorges.
