L'Orée des Bois takes its name from the pine woods that separate Royan from Pontaillac beach, on the so-called Côte de Beauté, a stretch of Charente coastline where early 20th-century seaside resort villas sit alongside coves of fine sand. Camping L'Orée des Bois offers bungalows, takeaway food, a playground, fishing, pétanque, a supermarket and a TV room, with the beach a short distance away among the pines. Royan, rebuilt after the war with distinctive modern architecture, and its covered market are a few minutes away.
