Description of the campsite
La Couarde-sur-Mer, on the Île de Ré, combines low houses with white façades and green shutters with traditional salt pans and table grape vineyards, on an Atlantic island linked to the mainland by a bridge several kilometres long. Camping de l'Océan, a simple campsite, has bungalows, a jacuzzi, a pool and a sauna, with the beach a short distance away and a spa for relaxing. It is a comfortable base for touring the island by bicycle, along its signposted lanes between marshes and pine woods, or for visiting Saint-Martin-de-Ré, the walled historic capital. It is advisable to check the season's opening dates with the campsite itself before booking.
