Besse-et-Saint-Anastaise preserves one of the best-kept medieval old towns in Auvergne, with its volcanic-stone houses at the foot of the Sancy massif and very close to Lake Pavin, which is of volcanic origin. Camping Bois de Gravière offers bungalows, takeaway food, a jacuzzi, a playground, pétanque, a pool, a sauna, a spa and wifi, as well as hiking trails to the nearby summits. The Sancy massif, the highest point in Auvergne, can be climbed on foot or by gondola lift from neighbouring Mont-Dore. It welcomes visitors in season; it is wisest to pin down this year's exact dates well in advance.
