Vallon-Pont-d'Arc marks the southern entrance to the Gorges de l'Ardèche, with the famous natural arch carved by the river as a gateway to one of the most spectacular river canyons in Europe. Camping Ardèche Midi offers a bar, barbecue areas, bungalows, takeaway food, a playground and pétanque, with the river beach on the Ardèche itself a short distance away and hiking trails to the canyon viewpoints. It is a classic starting point for canoeing down the gorges, which pass through limestone formations and prehistoric caves such as the Grotte Chauvet. It is advisable to check the exact opening dates with the campsite before travelling.
