Fréjus preserves one of the best-preserved Roman ensembles in Provence, with its amphitheatre and aqueduct, and looks out onto the Esterel massif, where red porphyry rocks drop straight into a turquoise Mediterranean. Camping de la Baume, a seasonal campsite, has a bar, bungalows, takeaway food, a gym, a swimming pool, a restaurant, a sauna, a spa and a supermarket, with hiking trails to the calanques (rocky coves) of the Esterel. It is a complete base for combining Roman archaeology, swimming in rocky coves and walks through one of the most distinctive volcanic landscapes of the French Riviera (Côte d'Azur).
