Saint-Jean-de-Monts, in the Vendée, has one of the longest and flattest beaches on the French Atlantic coast, backed by a vast pine forest planted in the 19th century to anchor the shifting dunes. Camping La Buzelière, a seasonal campsite, has a bar, bungalows, takeaway food, pétanque, a pool and the beach a short distance away. It is a classic family base on the Côte de Lumière, very close to the channel separating Saint-Jean-de-Monts from the island of Noirmoutier.
